Brian, and his twin brother Tony, were planning to move into their first apartment since graduating university and getting their first jobs. They were very excited and did not spare any expense getting the apartment renovated to their taste. They also decided to put in glass doors and stairway railings to give their new apartment a very modern feel and were very proud of it.
Unfortunately, they had bitten more than they could chew with the renovations and had to be more economical with their moving plans. They had researched some professional moving services, but felt they were too expensive. One of their neighbours, however, suggested that they consider hiring a van from a motor park as well as some neighborhood labourers to save on cost. They felt this was a better use of their funds and decided to do so.
On the move day, the brothers hired a driver with a van and found a few hands in their neighbourhood to help them with their move. Since they did not hire professionals with tools, they spent most of their morning managing the movers and ensuring that their items were handled as delicately as possible. At the new apartment, they had started to monitor the hands in moving their items, when an important issue regarding their occupancy came to their attention and they had to go the estate office to have the matter sorted out.
While addressing the occupancy issue, they could hear rowdy noises coming from where their apartment was located. Brian and Tony ran back to find a large crowd gathered around the moving van they had hired. Upon reaching their new apartment, they found shards of glass everywhere and some damaged furniture. It turned out that some of the hands, unfamiliar with each other, got into an argument, which escalated into a fight inside the apartment and led to the most of the glass fixtures in the house getting destroyed.
The brothers were so mad that Tony, in a rage, started beating up one of the labourers and Brian had to pull him off the victim of his wrath. They also brought in the police to report the incident and to have the labourers take responsibility but knew it would be a tall order to get any kind of acceptable compensation for the damages. The brothers regretted not using a professional service that would have been accountable for such damages and had no choice but to spend more money for the significant repairs to their new apartment.
