As a project coordinator with Hypamovers, I’ve had a lot of interesting challenges and experiences working at different locations and terrains, as well as various types of customers. With my first journal entry (and more to follow), I’d like to share with you some of my experiences and stories.
I once was on an engagement to help a client move to a new home in a newly developed part of town. The house was actually in an estate of newly built townhouses with a compound at the end of a very narrow, untarred street. To make things worse, there was a heap of construction debris that had spilled onto the street which made it difficult for vehicles to navigate.
We eventually got our truck into the compound, and for the most part, the move went off without a hitch. Once we were done and ready to leave, we realized we had a major challenge; the truck could not easily get out of the compound due to the narrow path and the debris out on the street. We tried several times to maneuver the truck through the gates but we were at the risk of causing damage to our truck and the estate walls.
Our team had to get creative. We devised a plan and sourced shovels to move debris. We also leveraged “geometry” to ensure that the truck gets out of the estate with minimal damage. We figured out how best to position the truck before moving through the gates, and moved just enough debris out of the way to give the truck the space it needed to navigate perfectly. By the time we were done, we were receiving praises from the client and other on-lookers as we got the truck out without even a scratch or a dent, and even better, no damage to the estate gates or walls.
This was a good experience for me because it taught me that rather than engage in “trial and error”, one should always analyze a problem and come up with a plan (especially when the stakes are high); this would save you a lot of headaches in the long run.
Did you enjoy our first volume? More would be coming up from other team members shortly!😊
