I Need More Time For My Move!! – A Hypamovers Nightmare Story

A state health management board made a swift decision to renovate its staff housing, made available to some of its employees. Mrs. Sanusi, a health-worker with one of the state-owned hospitals, was surprised to receive notice to vacate her current apartment with very little time to prepare. Though she was going to be reimbursed for the abrupt move, she was responsible for finding a new place to live and making arrangements for the move.

She was able to find a reliable agent and secure a good and affordable apartment. Her concern, however, soon turned to decisions on the right date to move, and whose service she should employ.

As a health worker with a busy schedule, Mrs. Sanusi could only get a single day off to actualize her move. Though she had a small window of opportunity to relocate, she wanted to be involved in every aspect of the move and reasoned that she could handle the process all by herself.

She borrowed a large truck and hired a 5-man crew to handle the loading, transportation and off-loading of her belongings at the new apartment. On the day of the move, things got off to a good start; after the truck was loaded and on its way, however, it was stopped at a checking point by federal road officials for a spot inspection. Unfortunately the truck did not have valid documents and was detained with all of Mrs. Sanusi’s belongings still on board.

Mrs. Sanusi was shocked by what was happening; she begged the officials but her pleas fell on deaf ears as she watched the truck get towed away. All efforts made to get the truck back on the road that day proved abortive, and she had to request an extra day off work to get her situation sorted out and move her things into her new apartment.

Making matters worse, on Mrs. Sanusi’s day back at work at the hospital, she was summoned to the office of the medical officials and received a query/citation for the unscheduled time off. She wished she could have done things differently by hiring moving professionals, and possibly getting help from friends; such decisions would have made a huge difference to avoid losing time, which cost her dearly.
