The Roads (Not the Rain) May Be Your Downfall – A Hypamovers Nightmare Story

Idong, a young and successful IT professional, had recently purchased a new house in a newly developed estate, and was planning to have a lavish celebration to mark this achievement. He intended to invite friends, family, the church clergy and some dignitaries to the housewarming and also planned to move into his new home just before the celebration. He was advised to go with a professional moving company to take away the stress of moving and planning a lavish event, but Idong opted to handle the move himself to save on additional costs; besides he wanted his party to be very lavish and needed every extra penny he could save.

On the day of the move, he hired two pickup trucks and a few labourers he found lingering around his old neighbourhood. Idong took on the role of supervisor and managed the team of labourers himself. At the start, it was a bit tedious, due to an early morning shower, but eventually move went as planned. Things however took a turn for worse on route to the new estate. They had been on the road to the new estate when one of the labourers asked about the route to their destination. Once Idong opened up about where they were going, the labourer screamed, “Ah road no dey good there O! When it rains in this area, the road is very bad!” Idong quickly dismissed the comment as he felt the pickup trucks could manage the off road travel. Unfortunately, due to recent rainfall, Idong had failed to realize that the un-tarred roads were full of pools of muddy water.

“Ah road no dey good there O! When it rains in this area, the road is very bad!”

Forcing their way through, the convoy managed to get one of the pickup trucks stuck on the muddy road and had to hire a tow truck to get it out. In the midst of this predicament, a few items of furniture got dislodged and fell off the back of the open truck!

The ordeal was so overwhelming that Idong had a bit of a nervous breakdown and was forced to cancel the elaborate housewarming party he had hoped to have. His failure to consider all aspects of the move and identify problem areas caused him a whole world of heartache and the destruction of his property.
