We’ve all had that experience… we hire “movers”, they come to “move” and end up causing more havoc than their worth. It is usually because they don’t have a plan for you.
Danladi and Halima were newlyweds and were moving to their new home shortly after the wedding ceremony. They had asked around for moving services and were referred to a “supposed” moving company. Since the couple were moving from separate places into the same apartment, it was obvious that proper planning and coordination was needed. They met with the movers who assured them that everything would be fine and they had nothing to worry about.
On the day of the move, they were surprised that the movers arrived at Halima’s parents’ home with a single moving van and did not appear to have enough hands on deck. “We can do it sharp sharp!” exclaimed a mover and proceeded to hurriedly pack and pick up items, stuffing them in the truck. In their attempt to pick up the pace, a mover accidentally dropped a number of boxes which contained fine china they had received as wedding gifts.
Danladi on the other had was patiently waiting at his parents’ home with his belongings, all packed up but alas, no van in sight. He frantically calls Halima who gives him the news of how clumsy and unprofessional the movers had been. In order to save time, Danladi had no choice but to enlist the help of friends and family to move his belongings to the couple’s new home. This meant taking multiple trips, and as you can image, extremely painstaking and slow.
At the end of the engagement, the couple complained to the movers of all the inconveniences and refused to pay the full price as agreed. The movers in return refused to unload their truck, which were full of Halima’s belongings and their wedding gifts. After much tussle and threats, they managed to secure the release of their items but still had to pay a portion of the balance owed to the movers. What a nightmare!
